Watch Terms That Actually Matter: A Richurus Buying Guide

Watch Terms That Actually Matter: A Richurus Buying Guide

Shopping for a watch can sometimes feel like reading another language.

Automatic. Chronograph. Meca-quartz. Skeleton. Sapphire. ATM.

But you do not need to become a watch expert to choose the right timepiece. You just need to understand the terms that actually affect how a watch looks, feels, and wears.

Here are some of the key terms you will see across the Richurus collection — and what they mean for you.

Automatic: For Those Who Love Mechanics

An automatic watch is powered by a mechanical movement that winds itself through the motion of your wrist.

There is no traditional battery. Instead, gears, springs, and a moving rotor work together inside the case.

At Richurus, some of our most distinctive automatic watches include the Bullhead Automatic, Gravity Automatic, Aviator Automatic, and Starship Automatic.

If part of the appeal of a watch is seeing and feeling the mechanics behind it, automatic is where to start.

Skeleton: When the Movement Becomes the Design

A skeleton watch exposes parts of the movement instead of hiding everything behind a traditional dial.

This gives the watch more depth and makes the mechanical construction part of its visual identity.

The Bullhead Automatic uses a skeletonized dial within our signature bullhead architecture, while the Gravity Automatic goes even further, putting its visible balance wheel and mechanical structure at the center of the design.

For these watches, the movement is not just inside the watch.

It is part of the reason you wear it.

Chronograph: More Than Just Telling Time

A chronograph is essentially a stopwatch built into a wristwatch.

You will usually recognize one by its additional pushers and sub-dials.

Chronographs are central to Richurus because of our connection to racing-inspired design. The Bullhead Chrono and Bullhead Chrono S bring that motorsport character to the wrist with bold layouts and highly recognizable cases.

If you like watches with more visual detail and a sporty feel, a chronograph is a natural choice.

Meca-Quartz: Quartz Meets Mechanical Character

You may see the term meca-quartz on the Richurus Aviator Chrono.

A meca-quartz movement combines quartz-powered timekeeping with a more mechanical-style chronograph system.

In the Aviator Chrono, the Japanese Seiko VK68 movement delivers the convenience and accuracy of quartz while giving the chronograph a more dynamic feel.

It is a good middle ground for someone who likes mechanical character but still wants the simplicity of quartz.

Bullhead: A Different Kind of Chronograph

“Bullhead” does not describe the movement.

It describes the layout.

Traditional chronograph pushers are usually positioned on the side of the case. A bullhead watch moves the controls toward the top, creating its distinctive silhouette.

That unusual architecture has become one of Richurus' signatures.

Today, you can experience it in both forms: the quartz-powered Bullhead Chrono and the mechanical Bullhead Automatic.

Same attitude. Very different experience.

Sapphire Crystal: Built for Everyday Wear

The crystal is the transparent surface protecting the dial.

Sapphire crystal is valued for its strong resistance to everyday scratches, which is why you will find it on watches such as the Bullhead Automatic and Bullhead Chrono S.

Other Richurus models may use hardened mineral crystal depending on the design.

Neither term is simply about appearance — the crystal is part of how a watch is built for everyday use.

Lume: Made to Be Seen After Dark

Lume is the material that allows parts of a watch to glow after exposure to light.

The Richurus LumiX collection makes this feature a major part of its identity, combining carbon fiber, Swiss quartz, and Super-LumiNova®.

Instead of treating lume as a small functional detail, LumiX makes nighttime visibility part of the design itself.

ATM: Understanding Water Resistance

You will often see water resistance written as 3 ATM, 5 ATM, or 10 ATM.

In simple terms, a higher rating indicates greater tested water resistance.

But water resistance is not the same as saying every watch is suitable for swimming or diving. Always check the individual product specifications before using your watch around water.

Which Richurus Is Right for You?

The terminology becomes much easier once you know what kind of watch experience you want.

Want mechanical movement on display? Look at the Bullhead Automatic or Gravity Automatic.

Want racing-inspired chronograph design? Start with the Bullhead Chrono or Bullhead Chrono S.

Want quartz convenience with mechanical-style chronograph character? Try the Aviator Chrono.

Want bold nighttime visibility? Discover the LumiX.

You do not need to know every term in watchmaking.

Just enough to understand what makes your next watch different.
