Richurus Bull Head Chrono Review – Bull Head Chronograph

A spectacular, classic-looking chronograph arrived at our editorial office to test it in everyday life and to write about our experiences. Let's see how this spectacular Richurus Bull Head style chronograph ticked over the past few days!
The Richurus
Newer watch manufacturing companies are mushrooming. One trend can definitely be detected in this process: learning from the initial experiences of years and decades ago and drawing the consequences, quality has become increasingly important for the workshops, as customers can only be attracted and retained with quality products.
Richurus , a independent watchmaking company , has been riding this wave into the watch world . It has created four collections to find its place in the market. Richurus aims of satisfying lovers of sporty, masculine-looking watches in relatively small quantities, keeping quality in mind, avoiding retail stores and keeping the price low.
We met on social media with a very nice marketing person from the company, who after a few exchanges of letters, having learned about my antics in the watch media, offered me a Richurus Bull Head Chronograph watch to try out, leaving me to honestly write my opinion about it. And I did, and here it is:
First impressions
The Richurus Bull Head arrived in a surprisingly sophisticated, high-quality box. It has a nice velvet lining on the inside, hard paper on the outside, but it is also the kind with a particularly sophisticated design. If I exclude the small dents on the corners that occurred during the long journey, I am completely satisfied with it.

Next to the watch I found spare parts, a branded watch strap, a warranty card and a user manual that explained in sufficient detail how to use the watch. I think this may be necessary, as a chronograph, even if it doesn't require atomic physics skills, can still cause surprises from time to time.
When I picked up the Richurus Bull Head, I was surprised to find that it was quite a heavy, solid piece. I won't have any problem forgetting that it's on my wrist, I can always feel the gravity with it.
The Richurus Bull Head chronograph is a true classic from the seventies. From the very first moment, something stuck in my mind, that I had seen this case shape somewhere before. If you look closely, you can see that here we are witnessing a typical materialization of an afterthought, or a tribute to an old great, i.e. an homage creation. It would be foolish to call it a knock-off or a copy. It is not. It carries on the features of its great predecessor, but it still manages to show off its own design elements. In my opinion, this is completely fine. It conveys the mood for me, and that is the point.
Appearances
The silver dial makes a pleasant impression with the metallic blue inner dial and three sub-dials, one of which is also blue. A youthful, sporty and cool play of colors, the harmony is really pleasant.
In the case of the Richurus Bull Head, the workmanship is surprisingly meticulous, we are dealing with a beautiful multilayer dial. With clearly distinguishable, overlapping layers, which create a certain three-dimensional effect before our eyes. I especially like that the grinding direction of each layer is different: sometimes it is vertically striped, sometimes it is circular. This also helps our eyes perceive the smaller details. The hands and indexes are polished, and if we tilt our wrist slightly, the reflected light plays wonderfully before our eyes.

The readability is acceptable, it doesn't cause any problems, our watch easily tells us the exact time in all lighting conditions. The date windows are placed at four o'clock, the size and color are also appropriate. The dial is protected by hardened mineral glass, which is not sapphire-hard, but at least slightly embossed, which helps to see the details of the dial.
The case and the metal strap are made of 316L stainless steel. The Richurus Bull Head has the shape of the aforementioned bull's head (as its name suggests), which means that the controls have been moved from the side to the top and bottom of the watch. At the bottom we find a crown, with which we can rotate the inner bezel and thus measure the average speed. At the top in the middle is the classic crown with the brand logo, which adjusts the hands and the date. Next to it are two buttons controlling the stopwatch on two sides, one of which starts/stops the counter, and the other returns it to zero, i.e. the starting position. The first surprise came with the operation of the stopwatch, but I will discuss this in more detail below.
The workmanship of the case is completely satisfactory for me in this price segment. Of course, don't expect world-class detailing, but the effort and the will to do it are clearly visible. There is absolutely no feeling that it was done haphazardly. In fact! It is especially pleasant to linger over the individual details.
The Richurus Bull Head features brushed surfaces on the sides, and the edges are surprisingly evenly and exquisitely polished, as is the bezel. It is truly heartwarming and eye-catching that you can really feel the attention to detail in this work. I emphasize: I formulate each of my statements taking into account that the watch is in the lower price range.
Since the Richurus Bull Head is powered by a quartz movement, the back is not transparent, it is also made of stainless steel. It is engraved with the brand name and some information, such as water resistance, reference number and case material.
The Richurus Bull Head has an oyster-style stainless steel strap that doesn't rattle, doesn't rattle, and lo and behold: It's made of solid links. However, here we come to one of the slightly annoying negatives, namely that the edges of the links, which are not processed thoroughly enough, cut my skin a little. It's not painful, but it's noticeable, and since the watch is quite heavy, it always reminds me that I'm wearing it, feeling the edges here and there, which is annoying.
I discovered another small flaw regarding the strap: at the crown located at 6 o'clock, a piece was cut out of the middle of the end eye so that the strap eye and the crown do not touch each other. This solution is very ingenious. This way, we can operate the crown freely and the strap is not damaged. However, for some mysterious reason, this cutout was not made in the case of the crown located at 12 o'clock, so turning the crown is more difficult and it does scratch the strap, although barely noticeable, but after a few days of use, traces of this were already visible.

Our spectacular chronograph is only water-resistant to 50 meters, which makes it unsuitable for water sports, but washing hands or taking part in a little splashing in the summer is still a task that can be easily undertaken with children.
Interior and operation
The Richurus Bull Head Chronograph is powered by the Japanese SEIKO VD53 battery-powered quartz movement. There are no problems with the operation itself, I feel that the assembly leaves something to be desired. I would like to mention here that I was surprised at the very first moment by the operation of the chronograph function, I think it is customary for me that when the stopwatch is started, a large hand starts counting the seconds, the actual secundum display is usually on one of the sub-dials. Here, this has been solved differently: the large hand shows the basic seconds, which helps in determining the exact time, while the stopwatch ticks on a small dial at 3 o'clock.
An unusual solution, at least for me. Here I noticed a bug that is quite disturbing to my eyes: namely, that after stopping the stopwatch and then resetting it, the pointer does not return to exactly zero, but moves back 3 seconds. I believe that this is not a design error, but rather an assembly and calibration error, which in my opinion can be remedied.
The manufacturer promises an accuracy of +/- 20 seconds per month, which makes the watch reliable. It would be enough to check the accuracy every third month. Of course, if the date did not have to be set every month that does not have 31 days. However, the Richurus Bull Head is probably much more accurate than this, since during the test period, the second hand practically ran at the same time compared to the system time of my phone.

Summary
The Richurus Bull Head was my daily companion for a few weeks and it delivered everything you could expect from it. Weighing up all the pros and cons, my opinion is that the effort they put into it is definitely worth a chance. It has some minor flaws, but the design, the craftsmanship, and the precision make it easy to forget about all of that.
