Not all watch lume works the same way.
When customers compare lume performance, confusion often comes from mixing two very different luminous technologies:
Tritium and Super-LumiNova®.
Understanding the difference helps set the right expectations — and explains why your watch may behave exactly as designed.
1. Two Completely Different Technologies
Super-LumiNova® (Used on LUMIX)
Super-LumiNova® is a photoluminescent material.
It works by absorbing light and then releasing it gradually in the dark.
Key characteristics:

Tritium
Tritium is a radioactive gas-based light source, sealed inside tiny glass tubes.

Gradually weakens over years due to radioactive decay

Subject to stricter regulations and higher production cost
Tritium is commonly used on military or tactical watches designed for constant visibility.
2. Which One Is Brighter?
The answer depends on when you look at it.

Many hours later, without recharging
→ Tritium remains visible, while Super-LumiNova fades
This difference often leads to misunderstandings when customers expect lume to stay bright all night without light exposure.

Super-LumiNova works by storing energy from light.
That means:
